Faith without actions is dead. I’ll say it again. Faith without actions is dead. I think that’s true, so I’ll say it again. Faith without actions is dead. Why do I keep saying that? Because faith without actions is dead!
How many times in your life have you told God (or a close friend) about your financial worries? About the same old problems? You meet up and you’re talking about the same thing again. Do you feel that the world has moved on without you? Because you hear that millionaires are popping up everywhere but you are still affected by the rising costs of inflation. Then you start talking about the rising costs of fuel, of food, of travel, of entertainment, of everything.
You turn to God. You look upon Him with eyes filled with tears of despair or hope, voice cracking with emotion. Then you do the same things that you’ve been doing, waiting upon God to bring you that miracle that you’ve been waiting for.
Faith without actions is dead.
What have you done differently to change what’s happening with your life right now? If you’re facing financial difficulties (or anything else for that matter), what have you done to change it? Have you done anything at all? Maybe you did. Maybe you ate less. Maybe you took public transport instead of driving. Maybe you alighted earlier so you can save a bit more by walking back home a few extra stops. Maybe you shared meals. Maybe you tried looking for extra work but nothing turned up. Stop.
That is a poor-man’s thinking. People who are going through famine do the exact same thing that was listed above. You have to stop thinking like a poor-man and start thinking like the rich! God is a rich God. He owns the cattle on a thousand hills (in olden day’s context, that’s humongous. Even in today’s context, it’s STILL humongous!)
There was a widow who was about to eat her last meal with her son (Read 1 Kings 17:10-16). She was expecting to die of hunger but instead gave that very bread to His prophet to eat. Giving that precious, precious last piece of bread resulted in her having more than enough until the day when the famine stops.
When Israel was going through famine, Elijah built an altar and poured water over it. Gallons of water. Gallons of precious, precious water. In front of thousands of people who needed it. And he did it again, and again. Until God brought forth a miracle of fire and rain (Read 1 Kings 18) and the famine stopped.
Faith without actions is dead.
Make the decision today to do something. Change your mindset. Stop thinking like a poor-man and start thinking like the rich! The common denominator in the two stories was that there was someone there to guide the people who were suffering towards richness and prosperity. You cannot rely on your own knowledge to change your future because let’s face it, you’ve been using your own knowledge for as long as you live – where has that gotten you so far? Don’t use your own knowledge anymore, attach yourself with a person with a rich mindset and learn from him!
We can neither choose our surroundings nor the people in our lives, be it rich or poor. But He gave you the power to become one of them. Which one will you choose? God has already surrounded your life with unlimited potential to be rich! You are the one who decides what happens next!
